DAY TO DAY CLEANING

 

Since your copper drinkware is 100% copper with no liner or lacquer coating (on the inside) it can oxidize and tarnish.  Not to worry, this is totally NATURAL.  It will not affect the taste of your water or copper's ability to ionize into your water.  Many of our customers simply allow the interior to tarnish/darken, however, some choose to keep the interior shiny as there is no wrong answer, it's personal.  If you do allow the interior to tarnish, please remember to continue to clean it after use with warm water and mild soap.  This will not remove the tarnish but will insure the interior remains clean and ready for use.  

1. Never Put In Your Dishwasher. Hand wash only!

2. Never put hot liquids in your copper drinkware.  It will make the lip and handle hot....ouch!

3. If you start to see dark spots on the inside of your copper, its just tarnish and is 100% natural.  Many of our customers simply love the tarnished look, as it does not affect the taste of copper's ability to ionize into your water.  

To remove tarnish, you can use any commercial tarnish remover.  Two of our favorites are  Wright's Copper Cream and Barkeepers Friend.  To use simply follow the instructions on the container or those below;

  • rinse your copper with warm water
  • put small amount of cleaner on a damp sponge or cloth
  • gently rub tarnished areas inside mug, usually 10-30 seconds 
  • only use cleaner on interior of mug
  • rinse thoroughly with water and dry immediately

You can also use lemon and salt.

  • about 1 teaspoon of Salt
  • about 1 teaspoon of Lemon Juice to make a paste

  1. Dissolve the salt into the lemon juice
  2. Use the paste on a cloth or sponge on the interior of your cup for 10-30 seconds
  3. Once the interior of your cup is shiny again, rinse thoroughly with warm water and dry immediately
