Why are there dark spots on my cup?

These dark spots on your mug, pitcher, or water dispenser are showing you that the interior of your copper is raw, unlined and uncoated and will be ionizing into your water/drink.  This is just tarnish, which is 100% natural and expected.  If you purchased your copper for the many health benefits, then seeing this exactly what you want and is a natural part of drinking from this amazing material.

Your cup will darken/patina/tarnish in a random manner and over the course of days/weeks it will take on a dark look over the entire interior.  Most of our customer allow tarnish to develop, but some choose to remove the tarnish on a regular basis, it’s totally up to you.  If you wish to remove the tarnish please see our cleaning instructions.  The tarnish does not affect copper’s ability to continue ionizing into your drink or the taste.  The exterior of your cup has a food-grade lacquer coating allowing it to remain bright and shiny.
